Thirumittacode Divyadesam - Thiruvithuvakodu Uyyavantha Perumal Temple - Anjumurthy Koil - The History

Once King Ambareesan underwent a penance here towards Lord Maha Vishnu to have His Darshan in Vyuharoopa as Vasudevan, Sangarshanan, Prathyumnan and Anirudhan. It is believed that King Ambareesan attained Moksha here. Pandavas during their “Vanavasam” came down here to this temple and worshipped the Almighty. The Idols in the West, South and center were installed and worshipped by Dharmar, Bheeman and Arjunan respectively, whereas Nakulan and Sahadevan worshipped the statue of Anirudhan located behind Prathyumnan. The Idol installed by Arjunana is being worshipped as Moolavar. Temple was called as “Naalu Murthy Koil”. Naalu means Four It is also believed that Kasi Viswanathar wanted to be present here in this temple along with the Paranthaman’s Four Vyuharupa for which he came from Kasi as Swayambu Murthy here near the temple’s balippedam. Henceforth the temple was known as Anju Murthy Koil

Kulasekaralwar praised the Almighty here with his 10 pasurams. There are many Sculptures on the wall of the shrine like Arjunan’s Penance, Dasavatharam, Krishna Leela, Krishnan Kuselan Meet, Geethobathesam etc …

Once a Brahmin from this place went to kasi and stayed there for a long period. After some time he heard that his mother was not feeling well and had to turn back to his village. He was very fond of worshipping Kasi Viswanathar and not ready to leave him. But with no other option, he started from Kasi on one rainy day with an umbrella. It is believed that Kasi Viswanathar came along with him under the umbrella. As soon as he reached the place, he kept the umbrella near the balipeedam and went to the tank to take the holy bath. To a big surprise when he returned from the tank, He saw a Swayambu Lingam near the Balipeedam. He realized that Kasi Viswanathar came along with him to please him as well to reside among the four vyuharupas of Sreeman Narayanan. Devotees entering from south entrance can worship Ganapathy and Guru Dakshinamurthy. Lord Ayyappan, Nagar and Vedha Vyasar can also be seen here. To prove that Pandavas installed the Idols here, there are evidences for the temple for its existence even before the Pandavas period. Thiruvithuvakodu Divyadesams is also familiarly called as y the local people as Thirumittacode , Naalu Murthy Koil and Anju Murthy Ambalam
