Thirumohur Divyadesam familiarly worshipped as “Kaalamegap Perumal Temple” is located 10 K.M. East of Madurai. It is believed that Lord Maha Vishnu had taken His Mohini Avatar here in this place to distribute the Nectar only to the Devas and not to the Asuars. Hence the place is being also called as “Mohiniyur” and later named as “Mohur”. In a seperate shrine, Thiruparkadal Nathan is blessing in His Prarthana Syanam - An Unique and Unsusal blessing posture along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi praying at His feet.

Thiruparkadal Nathan Blessing in a seperate shrine in His Prarthana Sayanam - An Unusual and Unique Blessing Posture

Moolavar Kaalamegap Perumal is blessing as the same way like He blesses in Kancheepuram Varadharaja Perumal having His Gadha in His Left Hand and positioned His Right Hand in such a way that He bleesses Boon ( Varam ) to the devotees, who came to worship Him in His Standing Posture facing East. The temple Pushkarini is being worshipped as “Ksheerapthi Theertham”. Kaala Megham means Dark Cloud which has rain drops in it. Perumal here is with full of Boons which will be given to the devotees whenever they needed like how the cloud gives the rain when needed. Hence the Almighty is being worshipped as "Kaala Megap Perumal". As He blesses Moksham to His devotees who surrender themselves to Him, He is also being worshipped as "Maarga Bandhu".

Chakrathalwar and Yoga Narsimhar with Conch and Discus

The speciality of the temple is that Chakrathaalwar ( Sudharsana Murthy ) who is one among the Five Weapons of Perumal. He is blessing with 16 different weapons in his 16 arms in His “Prathyaleetha” Posture, a position always ready to help the devotees who worship him. Backside of Sudharsanar Lord Narasimhar is blessing in his Yoga Posture holding a Conch and Discus ( Sangu and Chakra ) in His Hands. Besides both Moolvar and Utsavar are so identical, which is very unique among Divyadesams. Once the Vedic scriptures had stolen from Lord Brahma Devar by two asuras named Madhu and Kaidhaban. Brahama Devar performed daily poojas here to the Almighty seeking for the help. Pleased Paranthaman defeated the Asuras. recovered the vedhas from them and handed over to Lord Brahma. As a gesture of thank Brahma Devar requested and got prathyaksham as “Kaalamega Perumal”.

Thiruparkadal Nathan in His Prarthana Sayanam - An Unique and Unusual Blessing Posture

A Unique Sleeping Posture – Once Sage Palasthiyar underwent a penance here in Thirumoghur Divyadesams as he wanted to see the Almighty churning the Thiruparkadal to get the Nectar. Pleased Paranthaman gave Prathyaksham as he wanted. Hence there is a separate sannidhi here in this temple for “Thiruparkadal Nathan”. On the southern side of the temple there is a separate sannidhi, where Perumal is blessing as Ksheerabdinathan in His Unique “Prarthana Sayanam” Posture facing South, where His consorts Sreedevi and Bhoodevi are seen praying at the feet of the Lord. Adisheshan has a golden armour around his body. There are totally of Seven Sayana Postures of the Almighty in Divyadesams. They are Bogha Sayanam, Sthala Sayanam, Veera Sayanam, Aanandha Sayanam, Bala Sayanam, Utthana Sayanam and Prathana Sayanam - An unique and Unusual Type of Sayanam

Mohini Avatar

Once All Devas including Indhiran lost all their wealth and powers due to a curse. They got scared of Asuras and wanted to regain their powers. They went to Lord Brahma Devar and requested for immortality. Brhama informed them that it is possible only if they take "The Nectar" - Amudham. But the Nectar has to be taken out from Thiruparkadal which is a tedious process and for which help from the Asuras also needed. Devas made an agreement with the Asuras that once they get the Nectar they will share with them equally so that they also get immortality. Asuras accepted and alongwith the Devas they planned to churn Thiruparkadal using the Golden Mountain called as Mandharamalai as the Churning Stick, the Serpent Vasugi as a Churning Rope. They placed the mountain in the ocean and Vasuki wrapped himself around it. Devas holded the tail side where as the Asuras were on the head side of Snake Vasugi. When they initiated the process of Churning the Milky Ocean, The Mountain started to sink beacuse of the enormous weight. Everyone requested the help of Paranthaman. HE came in the form of a Giant Tortoise - Kurma Avatar holded the mountain on Him and at the same time HE sat on the Mountain as Maha Vishnu to balance the Mountain.

The Churning process was successfully started. Due to the heavy pain Vasuki unable tolrate the pain and vomitted the posion, which was known as "Aalahala Visham", the first thing came out of from the milky ocean. To save everyone, it was taken by Lord Shiva and HE became “Neelakandar”. From Thiruparkadal “Ucchaisiravasu”, the white Horse, “Iraavadham” the white elephant came which was handed over to Indhiran. Finally the Nectar came. Being nearer it was taken by the Asuras. Frightened Devas requested Lord Maha Vishnu to help them. The Almighty took “Mohini Avatar” and told both the Asuras and Devas that She will distribute without any partilality. By seeing the gorgeous Mohini Asuras was delighted and accepted Her condition. All Devas and the Asuras sat in the sepearte line. Mohini started to distribute the Nectar to Devas first. By knowing Her trick, one of the asuras assembled in Devas queue and got the nectar. But Suryan and Chandhran noticed and reported this to Mohini. Angry Mohini hit that asura with the spoon through which Sshe was distributing the Nectar. The asura was cut into two. Since he consumed the Nectar he did not die. Later the Head and the Body from a snake were attached to the Body and Head of the cut Asura which resulted the birth of the Planets “Raghu“ and “Kethu”. Thus Almighty successfully issued the Nectar only to Devas.
