He was childless. Along with his wife Gauthami, he underwent a penance towards Goddess Mahalakshmi to get blessed with a child. Lakshmi Devi Herself born as a child to the king who was named as Vasumadhi. As she grew older, one day she met a person named Veera Narayanan and fell in love with him. By hearing this the King enquired about him and got an assurance from him that once he get married he will take care of Vasumadhi throughout his life time. The king was impressed and accepted for the marriage. But surprisingly once the marriage formalities got completed, both the bride and the groom went up to Sri Veeraraghava Sannidhi in the temple, Climbed on to Couch of Adhisesha and merged with the Almighty. King then only realized with a pleasant surprise that his son‐in‐law was none other than the Sreeman Narayanan and his daughter was Goddess Mahalakshmi. Once the king named Prathyumnan underwent a penance for hundreds of years standing on the toe of his left leg to get blessed for the child. Pleased Almighty gave prathyaksham to him on the day of Thai Amavasai ( New Moon Day in the Tamil Month of Thai ) and blessed him with a child. The King also requested the Almighty that this temple tank should be the holiest of all. Almighty granted his request and thus this temple pushkarini became holier than Ganges. Vaidhya Veera Ragava Perumal and Vadalur Ramalinga Swamy ‐ Once when the staunch saivite. Vadalur Ramaliga Swamy had a severe stomach pain, Veera Ragava Perumal came in his dreams. It is believed that the next day Vadalur Ramalingar sang 5 Verses in praises of Almighty and his disease is said to have been cured completely. Hence here perumal is also worshipped as Vaidhya Veera Ragava Swamy. Vaidhyar means Doctor in Tamil. It is very auspicious that taking a holy bath here in the temple theertham on New Moon days especially in the tamil month of Thai.
