Thiruvelukkai Divyadesam   -   Sri Azhagiya Singar Temple   -   Thiru Vel Irukkai Yoga Narasimhar Temple

Goddess Saraswathy sent a dangerous demon named Kapilasuran, Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimahan and destroyed the demon. “Vel” means wish and “Irukkai” means the residing place. As the Almighty after defeating Kapilasura felt happy and decided to stay here forever as He wanted to protect His devotees from all evil forces As always, Hence the temple got the name Thiru Vel Irukkai and later as Thiruvelukkai, where Almighty is blessing as Aal Ari and Mukundha Nayagan. There is no Raja Gopram here and it is a very small temple with just 3 Sanctum sanctorums, one for the Almighty, one for Thayar and the third is for Garudalwar. It is believed that during Narasimha Avatar, Almighty after destroying Hiranyakasibu strarted chasing the asuras who came to help the Demon Hiranya Kasibu. Finally He reached this place and waited the Asuras to come back. But He is blessing here as Yoga Narasimhar and not as Hiranya Samhara Narasimhar. Desigan praised his Kamakshiga Ashtagam on Azhagiya Singar.

Kanchipuram - The One among the 7 Holy Cities

There are 7 cities in India considered holiest and they are Haridhwar, Avanthi, Kasi, Ayodhya, Dwaraga, Mathura and Kanchi. Out of these 7 cities 3 were considered to be sacred to the saivites and other 3 sacred to Vaishnavites but Kanchi is for both. Besides it was the place for learning for Jains and Budhists. Besides it was the place for learning for Jains and Budhists. Once Lord Brahma Devar wanted to worship the Almighty in His Complete Form and underwent a penance here. Pleased Paranthaman gave Him His Darshan in the form of watre in Pushkaram and in the form of forest in Naimisaranyam. He was then asked to carry out Ashwamedhayagam in Sathya Kshetram to see Him as Narayanan. Hence Lord Brahma decided to conduct Aswamedha Yagam and asked the Deva Sthapathi Viswakarama to make a city. Goddess Sraswathy initially disturbed Bramha Devar but all were destroyed by Sreeman Narayanan. Finally Goddess Saraswathi accepted all her mistakes to Paranthaman as well Lord Brahma Devar and to apologize She is blessing as a Sacred Water in the form of Temple Pushkarini in Thiruthanka Divyadesam
