Thirunaraiyur Divyadesam familiarly worshipped as Kumbakonam Nachiyarkoil is about 10 kms from Kumbakonam and 3 KM from Thiruvinnagar Divyadesam Oppiliappan Temple, on the way from Kumbakonam to Thiruvarur. Another Divyadesam in the same as Nachiyarkoil is Uraiyur Thirukozhi Divyadesam in Trichy. Importance here in Thirunarayur Nambi Temple is Priority and Importance is always given to Thayar, blessing as Nachiyar here. This is the Only Sree Vaishnava Temple built as Maadakoil by the King Ko Chengat Cholan - One of the 63 Nayanmars, who built 73 Siva Temples as Maada Koil. Maada Koil has an Unique Strucuture where entrance of the Sanctum Sanctorum is narrow for an elephant to enter or too high that it cannot climb

The One and Only Divyadesam Where the Almighty Narayur Nindra Nambi is Blessing in His Five Forms

The Only Divyadesam Where the Almighty Blessing in His Five Forms.

Lord Naraiyur Nambi along with Thayar Vanjulavalli Nachiyar is blessing here in their Wedding Posture. The other forms of the Almighty are also seen here as Shangarshanan, Prathyumnan, Anirutthan, Purushothaman and Vasudevan. These are the forms which Lord assured to offer His entire powers to Thayar. Thirunaraiyur is the Only Divyadesam among the 108 where Moolavar holds His Conch and Sudharshan Charka in front of his face where as noramally He holds alongside. Temple Vimanam is Srinivasa Vimanam whcih resembles the Vimanam of Triplicane Parthasarathy Temple ( One among the 22 Thondainadu Divyadesam in Chennai ). There are Five Temple Pushkarinis here being called as Manimuktha Theertham, Sankarshana Theertham, Anirudha Theertham, Samba Theertham and Prathyumna Theertham. Paranthaman knew that in Kali Yugam all Men should have to listen to their Consorts. Hence decided that HE should serve as an example first and listen to Goddess here. Special importance is given to Thayar here and always the first privilege is only to Nachiyar. The way of worship in Thirunaraiyur Nachiyarkoil is first offered to the Goddess Vanjulavalli Thayarand then only to the Almighty. The Naivedhayams are being offerred to Thayar first and SHE only leads the street procession in Anna Vahanam. Besides Only here devotees can worship the small idols of All 108 Divaydesam Presiding Deities in a small Glass Cabin placed nearer to the sannidhi of Kal Garudan. Another uniqueness here is that Lord Brahma Devar is blessing the devotees in his Standing Posture that too in Sanctum Sanctorum, where as he normally blesses in His Sitting Posture.

Exponentially Growing Kal Garudan

Periya Thiruvadi Garudalwar is very unique and important here in Thirunaraiyur Nachiyarkoil and he is worshipped as Kal Garudan. He grows exponentially on the Garuda Sevai Festivals. When he goes out for Garuda Sevai during the street procession in the Tamil month of Marhazhi from the temple, the weight of the Kal Garudan increases unbelievably, which requires to be carried by 4 person to start with and leads up to 64 persons, but while he comes back after the seva to the temple, the weight decreases slowly and requires only 4 persons to carry him inside the temple. Worshipping Kal Garudan here is believed to be Free from Naga Sarpa Dhosham, and blessing childless couple to get blessed with brighter children.

Once the Sage named Medhava Mahirishi underwent a severe penance towards the Almighty and as a result of which he was blessed that very soon Goddess Lakshmi Devi would born as his daughter. After some years, he found a Girl Baby under a Vanjula Tree. He took the child and brought her up in the name of Vanjula Valli. Almighty came in His Five Forms as Shangarshanan, Prathyumnan, Aniruththan, Purushothaman and Vasudevan in search of HIS Consort and reached this place. He requested the Sage to marry his daughter. By knowing the man is None Other than the Almighty, he agreed with a request that the Priority should be given always to his daughter. Hence the importance is always given to Nachiar here. There are Sannidhis for Yoga Narasimhar, Thiruvengadan, Sreerama in HIS Pattabishega Posture, Hanuman, Lakshmi Narasimhan, Ranganathan, Varadharajan, Senai Mudhalvar, Nammalwar, Thirumangai and Sudharshanar with His 16 hands.

The Only Sree Vaishnava Temple built as Maadakoil by Ko Chengat Cholan - One among the 63 Nayanmar

Kosengat Chozhan and his 70 Manimadakoil - There were two Siva Ganas by name Malyavan and Pushpadanta. Though they are Shiva Ganas they always quarrel with each other. One Day on top of all in the quarrel Malyavan cursed Pushpadanta to become an elephant in the Earth and the latter cursed the former to become a Spider. Both of them came to Thiruvanaikoil in Trichy ( One among the Panch Bootha Sthalams ) and continued their worship towards Lord Shiva. The Elephant used to collect water from River Cauvery and perform an Abhishekam to the Siva Lingam under the Jambu tree everyday. The spider used to construct his Web Over the Siva Lingam to prevent dry leaves falling from the tree dropping on it and also to prevent the Sunlight directly falling on the Lord. When the elephant saw the spider web, it thought that was a dust on Lord Shiva, tore them and cleaned the Linga by pouring water. This happened continously. The spider became angry by seeing this and crawled into the trunk of the elephant bit it to death and the spider also dead. Lord Siva, moved by the deep devotion of the two relieved them from one other curse. As an elephant worshipped the Lord here, this place came to be known as Thiru Aanai Kaa ( Thiru - the Holy, Aanai - the Elephant and Kaa - the Forest ). and now as Thiruvanaikoil. The Spider's Re Birth as Kosengat Chozhan - In next birth the Spider was re-born as the King Kovchengat Cholan and built 70 Siva Temples and Thirunarayur - the Only Vishnu Temple. Remembering the enemity with the elephant in his previous birth, he built the Sanctum Sanctorum with 4 feet height and 2.5 feet wide in such a way that an elephant can not enter into sanctum sanctorum to worship the Almighty. These type of temples are known as "Manimadakoil.
