Thirunavaya Divyadesam - Navay Mukundhan Temple - Mummorthy Kshetram - The History

Once here Nava Yogis named Sathvanathar, Salokyanathar, Adinathar, Arulidhanathar, Madaganathar, Machendranathar, Kadyathranathar, Goranathar and Kukuthanathar underwent penance here towards Paranthaman to attain Moksha. They installed an Idol of Maha Vishnu and closed the temple for 7 days as its is custom when a new idol gets installed. On the 9 th day when they opened the temple, they got surprised that the Idols was disappeared. They again installed a new idol and closed the temple. On the 9th day when they opened again the idol was disappeared. This was repeated for 8 times. They installed a new idol for the 9 th time but opened the temple on the fourth day instead of 9th day to know hwat was happening. To a big surprise, they saw the Idol was dissented in to the earth to the level of its knee. When the temple was opened the dissenting was stopped and the idol remained as it was. Even now devotees can worship the idol only above the knee. This is very unique and cannot be seen in any of the divyadesams. Later, Eight Yogis got salvation here. But it was not happened to the ninth yogi. Being annoyed, he stopped all his pooja performances. During that time, all the Eight Yogis who got the Moksha here was brought by the Almighty, in an invisible form to continue the pooja performances. After some time ninth yogi also got his moksha. Paranthaman asked all the Nine Yogis to remain here in invisible form to worship Him here.

Once there was full of Lotus Flowers here in the temple tank. Thayar used to pluck all the flowers to worship the Almighty. Gajendran too wanted to worship Perumal with Lotus. But Thayar used to pluck all the flowers first, Gajendran was unable to worship the Almighty with Lotus Flowers. He requested Paranthaman that he too wanted pluck the flowers for Him. Narayanan asked Thayar to be with Him so that Gajendran will worship them both with the Lotus Flowers. Then Gajendran started to pluck all the flowers from the temple tank to offer them to both the Almighty and Tahayar. . There are temples for Lord Shiva and Lord Bramma Devar on the other side of Bharadha Puzha River. Hence the temple is also being worshipped as “Mumoorthy Kshetram”. Thirunaavay is onsidered as Holy as Kasi, hence Shrarthams are also being performed in the banks of the river. The Temple Theertham is Sengamala Saras, Kamala Thadagai. The temple Vimanam is Vedha Vimanam.
