On the 18th Day of Gurukshetra War, the wheel of Karna’s chariot got stuck in the ground an d was not able to proceed further. Chariot’s driver Salliyan refused to take out the wheel from the ground. Hence Karna got down and engaged to take out the wheel, he kept his weapons aside. Karnan was weaponless. As instructed by Krishna, Arjunan killed him while he was unarmed. This made Arjunan very sad and could not excuse himself. He came here at the end of the Gurukshetra war to undertake penance repenting for killing Karna and his relatives, It is the place where Pandavas hide all their weapons in the Vanni Tree during Pandava’s life incognito. Arjuna got himself cleansed of all his sins with the grace of Thirukuralappan, who blesses in His Standing Posture facing East. Temple Vimanam is worshipped as Vamana Vimanam.
